WARNINGS ECHO RULES AND POLICIES - VERSION 1.0
Revision Date 02 MAR 1993
******************************************************************
English is the official echo language.
In compliance with FidoNet Echo Policy, the following rules will
be posted no less than once per month, and nothing in these rules
will supercede or replace any valid FidoNet rule or policy.
-> ALL USERS WHO HAVE ACCESS TO THIS CONFERENCE MUST READ THIS. <-
-> BY POSTING IN THE ECHO, YOU AGREE TO ACCEPT AND ABIDE BY THE <-
-> RULES AS HERE POSTED. <-
This is the International FidoNet Echomail Conference WARNINGS,
paid for by those systems which help distribute it. With that in
mind, let's try to help keep costs down.
The topic of this echo concerns important and possibly important
warnings of general interest. This includes, but is not limited
to, computers (virus alerts, hack warnings, and sightings of other
potentially dangerous files), consumer alerts, and governmental
actions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Messages must remain on the topic of this conference as
described above. Let the Moderator do the Moderating!
2. Foul or obscene language and personal invective will not be
tolerated. Flames should go to the FLAME Echo. Also,
unfounded accusations are highly frowned upon. If you have a
warning that someone else might consider libelous, think long
and hard before posting it.
3. Personal messages, chit chat and nonsense are not permitted.
Personal messages and individual thank you messages should be
sent by netmail. If you don't have access, discuss it with
your local sysop. Encrypted, encoded or rotated messages are
forbidden.
4. Messages in this echo are considered public domain. Quotes
from magazines, newspapers, and/or other journalistic sources
should carry proper attribution and, if required by
International Copyright Law, proper advance permission.
5. Keep the quoted portions of your messages SHORT. Excessive
quoting adds to expense and overhead. Quote just enough to
identify the thread of the conversation for other users.
6. Posting of test messages and posting of BBS ads will be
considered annoying behavior.
7. The use of ASCII (control) characters ASCII 31 and below is
prohibited in this echo. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Use of eight bit characters above 127 will be permitted,
subject to the following:
No use of such characters to create "cutesy" quote boxes or
signatures, nor for purely decorative purposes in messages.
We have to keep in mind that the sending of ANY additional
characters in messages does add to the cost of moving the mail,
so, they must be kept to a minimum. Please use some judgment,
and don't get carried away.
This rule will remain in effect unless I get reports of system
disruptions or in the event of a of a change in FidoNet
technical standards.
8. This conference MAY NOT be ported to the BIX echomail system,
CompuServe or to any other network's mail system without the
express written permission of the Moderator.
9. Questioning or discussion of Moderator policy in the open echo
is off topic, except that the Moderator reserves the right to
post special messages relating to such policy and rules from
time to time for the edification of all participants. I
welcome, will listen to and consider, any suggestion or
criticism which reaches me by private NetMail.
10. Real names must be provided if you are using an alias or
handle.
Lee Jackson, Moderator, WARNINGS (1:382/95)
